Stroudsburg is a borough in Monroe County, Pennsylvania, located in the Pocono Mountains region. The town was founded in 1799 by Jacob Stroud, a founder of Stroudsburg and the county’s first sheriff. Stroud established a gristmill and sawmill along McMichaels Creek, which helped the town grow as a commercial center.
In the 19th century, Stroudsburg developed into a transportation hub, with the arrival of the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad and the Lehigh Valley Railroad. The town became a popular destination for visitors seeking outdoor recreation and scenic beauty in the Pocono Mountains.
