Last month, I wrote about something our family knows pretty well: being busy.
Between work, school, three soccer teams, cheerleading, dance, pets and everything else that somehow finds its way onto the calendar, there are only so many hours in a week.
That led to a simple question:
Is cleaning your house really where you want to spend those hours?
But let’s say you’ve decided you’d rather hand that job to someone else.
The next question is usually:
“Okay, Scott. How much is this actually going to cost me?”
Fair question.
And I don’t think you should have to sit through a sales pitch just to understand how house cleaning prices work.
So let’s talk about it.
How Much Does Biweekly House Cleaning Cost?
For some homes, Maid 2 Clean’s biweekly cleaning can start around $150 per visit, with the actual price based on the home and its cleaning needs.
Biweekly cleaning means your home is professionally cleaned every two weeks, typically on a consistent schedule.
There isn’t one universal price because there isn’t one universal house.
Here are some of the biggest factors:

Imagine two homes.
Both are approximately 2,000 square feet with three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
One has two adults, no pets and stays relatively tidy between cleanings.
The other is a busy family home with kids, a dog, a heavily used kitchen, paw prints on the floors and bathrooms that see considerably more traffic.
Same square footage.
Same bedrooms.
Same bathrooms.
Very different cleaning jobs.
Square footage matters, but it doesn’t tell the whole story.
We Don’t Price Your House Based on What We Think You Can Afford
This is important to me.
I’ve never liked the idea of walking through someone’s house and deciding:
“Eh…this feels like a $200 house.”
Your cleaning price shouldn’t change because there’s a nice car sitting in your driveway or because you live in a particular neighborhood.

This is where comparing prices gets tricky.
If one cleaning company quotes $150 and another quotes $200, you can’t really know which is the better value until you know what you’re getting for the money.
Biweekly recurring cleaning is designed to maintain your home.
Our technicians maintain the major areas of the home, including kitchens, bathrooms, floors and living spaces, while also addressing maintenance details such as dusting baseboards, trim and faceplates.
The goal is simple:
Keep the home consistently clean instead of repeatedly starting over.
Why Might the First Cleaning Cost More?
There’s a difference between getting a home clean and keeping a home clean.
If a home hasn’t been professionally maintained for a while, there may be additional buildup that needs to be addressed initially.
Once we’ve established a good baseline, recurring visits are designed to maintain it.
That’s one reason biweekly cleaning works well for many households—we’re returning before several weeks of buildup have accumulated again.
How Long Should a Biweekly Cleaning Take?
There’s no universal answer.
A 2,000-square-foot home isn’t automatically a three-hour cleaning.
The condition of the home, number of bathrooms, pets, surfaces, buildup and what’s included in the service all affect the work required.
Your first few visits may also take longer while your technician becomes familiar with your home.
That’s another reason our goal is to schedule recurring customers with the same technician, on the same scheduled day and time whenever possible.
They learn your home, your preferences and your routine.
They may even learn which pet plans to follow them around for the entire cleaning.
The goal shouldn’t be keeping someone in your house for an arbitrary number of hours.
The goal is consistently completing the cleaning your home needs.
How Should You Compare House Cleaning Quotes?
Let’s say one company quotes $150 and another quotes $200.
It’s completely reasonable to ask:
“Why would I pay $50 more?”
But don’t stop at the price.
Ask:
- What’s actually included?
- Are the cleaners background checked?
- How are they trained?
- Are they employees or independent contractors?
- Does the company carry liability insurance and workers’ compensation?
- Are supplies provided?
- Will I generally have the same cleaner?
- What happens if my cleaner calls out?
- What happens if I’m unhappy with the cleaning?
- Are there additional fees or policies I should know about?
A $150 quote and a $200 quote aren’t really comparable until you know what each one includes.
A higher price doesn’t automatically mean better cleaning.
And a lower price doesn’t automatically mean bad cleaning.
There are some fantastic independent cleaners out there.
The important thing is understanding what you’re actually buying.

You can probably find someone willing to clean your house for less than us.
I’m okay admitting that.

Is Biweekly House Cleaning Worth the Cost?
That’s ultimately a personal decision.
September around here means school is back, fall sports are underway and weekends start disappearing again.
For our family, there are plenty of things on the calendar we can’t hand off to somebody else.
Nobody else can watch our kids’ games for us.
Nobody else can have dinner with our family for us.
But someone else can clean the bathroom.
So instead of only asking:
“What’s the cheapest cleaning service I can find?”
I’d also ask:
“What am I getting for my money—and is it worth it to my family?”
